Hello, I am Helen Coulson and I am manager at Nurserytime Kindergarten in South Shields. I would like to share my vision and tell you a little bit about my setting.

We are situated in a lovely coastline location in short walking distance of a beautiful beach and a large park also near is a new library and a community hub. These amenities allow our children to embark upon unique learning opportunities  through frequent outings in our local community. All Nurserytime settings believe that children can gain a great deal and learn so much from outdoor learning and we love exploring on our weekly child-led outings which adopt the Forest School Ethos.

"The best classroom and the richest cupboard are roofed by the sky"- Margaret McMillan

These outings involve sustained access to the natural environment of both park and beach areas to explore safely and develop an endless set of skills through their experiences. The children take part in activities such as spending the day in the woodland environment foraging for natural resources to explore and use in our nursery art, mini beast hunts and  exploring rock pools on the beach and almost forgot jumping in muddy puddles [ our favorite] We provide a unique and learning rich environment with natural, open ended easily accessible resources which promote imagination and through this environment children develop their skills through play at their own speed.

"Logic will get you from A to B but imagination will take you everywhere" - Albert Einstein

Nurserytime believes children benefit from active hands on learning experiences and this goes hand in hand with Reggio  Emilia pedagogy which considers children to be naturally inquisitive and I feel this should be nurtured allowing children's learning to be driven by curiosity and questions.

"The best teachers tell you where to look but don't tell you what to see" - Alexandra Trenfor
